This article aims to inform you on what it is like when applying to a medical course in Latvia.

OVERVIEW

The Riga Stradins University offers a six-year-long English-taught course in medicine.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • You need to have passed at least three subjects at A-level. In most cases, these subjects will need to be physics, chemistry, and biology. The minimum grade you need to get in each of the subjects is C.
  • You also need to have excellent GSCE grades in English, chemistry, maths, and biology.
  • If you come from a non-English speaking country, you will need to take an English exam and provide the university with a certificate proving your English proficiency.
  • You can take the IELTS, in which you will need to score at least 6.5.
  • Or the TOEFL iBT, in which you will need to score at least 80 points.
  • Or you can take the Cambridge English test, you will need to score at least 160 points.

ENTRANCE EXAM

There is no entrance exam that a student needs to take.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Apply can access the application online through the  website. Once you complete the application you will need to print it out and submit it by post to the university.

The application will cost around £83.

You will need to provide evidence of

  • Completion of education.
  • A copy of your passport or your ID
  • Proof of your English proficiency
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Letter of motivation

APPLICATION DEADLINE

  • The application deadline for applicants from outside of the European Union is at the start of May.
  • Applicants from within the European Union have until the start of July to submit their applications.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

You can send in your application starting early February.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The tuition fees are about £10,000 a year.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The Latvian state scholarship will grant the successful candidate about £413 a month for the whole course of the scholarship, which can be up to 10 months. You need to have studied for your bachelor’s degree for at least a year before applying for this scholarship.
