Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT) is an exam conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses in Ireland. It is developed by Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The 2 ½ hours test is in multiple-choice format and tests a candidate’s logical reasoning, problem-solving, and social skills. The test runs online only once a year. The eligibility requirements for the HPAT are simple. A candidate should be in the final year of schooling (6th year) to sit for the HPAT. They can also attempt it any year thereafter and as many times as they want.

The minimum points to get into medical programmes vary
from year to year and for different universities. But a total of score at least
730 points is usually needed to get in. HPAT scores are valid for one year.
In 2023, the exam fee for HPAT was €152.80. All UL candidates had to pay an additional fee of €6.00 to sit for the Written English component. There eas also an additional late fee of €70.00 for late registrations to sit HPAT. You can save this extra cost by registering before the deadline.
HPAT 2024 will be conducted across several days in February 2024. Dates are yet to be announced, so students should follow the official website to track the release of key dates. Since the test is held online via remote proctoring, candidates can select a time and day according to their convenience.
