OUR STORY

Lurnable was founded by Nithya Prabu, who has first-hand experience of studying and living abroad as an international student. Nithya has been able to pour her own experiences and knowledge into creating Lurnable, a platform which inspires and helps young adults shape their future.

This is her story:
I came to the UK as an international student in 2003 from a small town in India called Erode. There was not one education consultant or expert in the 100-km radius who could have helped me with my choice of course or university, or even country for that matter. I would travel six hours by train to meet with an expert and discuss my choices and educational opportunities to study abroad.

With such little knowledge available, I took someone else’s advice and followed the path which someone else had chosen for me. With so many dreams and hopes about my future, I attended my very first class at university, only to realise that it was not what I wanted out of my experience. After a lot of difficulties, I was able to move to a different university to study a course I really wanted..

Having thoroughly enjoyed my education in the UK, I couldn’t help but think about all the educational choices that were made to get me to that point, and it dawned on me that none of those decisions had been truly mine at all!

The decision, the associated experiences and the repercussions still haunt me today. Not to mention the frustration of knowing that all of it could have been avoided if I had access to more information.

The haunting of my experience combined with my passion to help children in similar situations inspired my decision to help empower students throughout their educational journey. I started working in the international education industry, providing advisory services to students, leading international collaborations between education institutions, and bringing inward investments to the UK by helping Indian investors buy schools or invest in the UK education industry.

With first-hand experience of the international education industry spanning 19 years, a few of which were as an international student, I can say with authority that taking the right educational decision is still a challenge.

I want to help and inspire every parent and every student who wants to make the best education decisions, with guidance which is free of corporate interests and human biases and with access to all possible educational opportunities.

I want all children, including my two girls, to be living in a world where they get to explore all the options available to them and pick the one that will unleash their full potential to the world.

At Lurnable, we are striving every day to make this happen through bespoke services and technology-enabled products that will help international students make the right educational decisions.
