CAREER PROSPECTS AS A MARKETING EXECUTIVE IN THE FIELD OF ENGLISH IN THE UK

English is a common degree choice for many students, as it is a subject that allows them the freedom of expressing their thoughts and conveying them effectively. 

The skill of communicating ideas and concepts – by mouth or on paper, is quite a desired one for many employers. English is a subject that gifts you with many qualities that can be widely applied to several job sectors.  

WHY A CAREER IN ENGLISH? 

Graduates who pursue career paths in English are notably interested in language, different types of literature and most often, writing. Many of the jobs they decide to do are related to their subject at least on a small level. English gives you more than just writing skills however, it allows you the chance to think critically with both logic and open-mindedness, which is great for those looking to progress to careers such as law or politics as many English graduates do.  

Marketing Executive 

An English degree can also be very useful in marketing, as it consists of writing campaigns to promote a service or product just like a copywriter. This role, however, includes many different aspects that all come together, such as planning, advertising, research, product development and public relations.  

As a marketing executive, you can work in a marketing department of a public or private sector. These can be anything from retail, media, finance, or the media. So, even if you don’t want to follow a traditionally English-related role, you can still use your skills from an English degree and apply it confidently as a marketing executive.  

Many of the responsibilities you’ll have in more detail are writing and proofreading marketing copy, managing customer databases, distributing marketing content, working with eternal agencies, and developing relationships with key stakeholders. This role revolves a lot around working with other professionals in the industry, so if you thrive working in teams or being surrounded by people, then it’s the perfect role for you.

You can become a marketing assistant without a degree, but you’ll be at a disadvantage. Many graduates have an English degree, or a similar one in marketing, IT or business. Senior Marketing Executive /manager

Marketing directors, as you can imagine, have an immense marketing or English-based background, along with a master's or a postgraduate to support their career. They also have years of experience that gives them more responsibilities and skills to offer guidance to junior colleagues, just like you!
