The German Sport University, Cologne is a university with a mission to increase the significance of sports and exercise science in order to facilitate the country with health, and social policy and support the economy. Established in 1947, the university is regarded as one of the top sports-based universities in Europe as well. Considering it is one of the very few European sports universities, they encourage and place an emphasis on international students and student exchange programs in order to ensure their quality of education.
Based on the university’s aptitude test result of February 2022, out of 873 applicants, 420 students passed and 453 students which make up more than 53% of the applicants, failed to clear the aptitude test. The aptitude test consists of an assessment of numerous motor functions of the applicant that could be used for up to 3 years. It is conducted twice a year, around February and after the holiday of Pentecost. As a part of the Physical Aptitude test, the applicant must complete 20 individual performances, if the applicant completed up to 19, the test is considered to be passed otherwise the applicant is requested to discontinue the test. This does not include high-performance athletes and people with disability.
If you are a student with special needs, you will be assessed through a separate procedure to analyse whether or not you are practically oriented with the degree and whether your disability does not hinder your future career in the professional field.
Is important to note that some of the courses offered by the university use German as a medium of communication. It is advised to examine the language specification before going through the application process.

In order to receive a Ph.D. in German language, the students must have DSHII certificate, TestDaF TN4 certificate and Telc C1 Hochschule. To receive the Ph.D. degree in English the students must meet the requirements of TOEFL iBT ≥ 95 points, IELTS British Council ≥ 7 points and Cambridge C1 level. Similar to the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, the students will be required to pay a fee of 300 EUR per semester.
