You will be expected to look for any patterns or correlations in the data they collect, and essentially help find solutions to the problems they face as a company.  

This would involve using a lot of different sources, statistical tools, and materials, in order to interpret the data effectively. Data scientists are popular as they can work in various fields of business and have great analytical and technical skills that make them so sought after as employees.
