Who it is for

Like any other exam, students sitting for NEET 2024 must meet a few eligibility criteria recommended by the conducting authority. These include-

• Candidates must have cleared Class 12 from a recognised board. The cut-off percentage for general applicants is a minimum of 50% marks, while PWD must have a minimum of 45% marks and OBC/SC/ST categories require 40% marks.
• The minimum age requirement is 17 years before December 31, 2024, or during admission. It means candidates born on or after December 31, 2007, can appear for NEET 2024. The upper limit is 25 years for General category candidates and 30 years for other categories.
• Indian Nationals, NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs can appear for the exam.

NEET exam is an undergraduate-level exam conducted annually for admission to medical, dental, nursing, and AYUSH courses and institutions. It also serves as a gateway to the most reputed medical institutes, including AIIMS and JIPMER.

• NEET 2024 will decide the admission to BSc Nursing courses.
• NIOS, State Open School, and private candidates cannot appear in the exam.
• All students who are Indian citizens and want to pursue medicine abroad must qualify for the NEET UG 2024 exam.
• Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also a part of the 15% All India Quota scheme now.

Exam Pattern

The pen and paper-based exam will be in 13 languages. Here are the other significant details regarding the exam pattern for NEET 2024-

• The exam duration will be 200 minutes, and it will have 200 multiple-choice questions from all three subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Out of these, candidates will have to attempt 180 questions.
• Each subject will have two sections- Section A with 35 questions and Section B with 15 questions. From Section B, 10 questions have to be attempted.
• Each question has a weightage of 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of -1 for each incorrect answer. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions or added for extra attempted ones.
• It is not mandatory to show the Aadhar card to fill out the application form. But one must keep a valid ID proof handy.
• There are no restrictions on the number of exam attempts.
• Students can appear for the exam in any of the two preferred languages besides the standard English language

Important Dates

NEET 2024 is scheduled on May 5, 2024, and registration for the exam will start from March 2024. NTA will release the information brochure at the official website: neet.nta.nic.in with the exam date and other important dates. Candidates should check the updates to avoid missing any major events. International Students

Foreign students can sit for the NEET exam, provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria by passing the class 12/equivalent exam in their country. They should have studied English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in class 12 or equivalent examination A minimum score of 60% marks in aggregate is also required to qualify.

Eligibility streams courses

Eligibility criteria also include the stream and subjects. Candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Likewise, the ones having Biology as an additional subject can also appear for the exam.
