OVERVIEW

The University of Hong Kong offers a six-year-long English-taught course in Medicine and Surgery. They also offer courses in biomedical science, nursing, pharmacy, and more.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • The grade requirements for a Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery at The University of Hong Kong include having two A* and one A in your A-levels.
  • This is equal to about 43 points on the IB Diploma.
  • There is a number of ways you can go about proving your English language proficiency.
  • You can take the IELTS Academic Module, in which you are required to have scored at least an overall score of 6.5.
  • Or you can take the TOEFL.
  • If you take the internet-based test you are expected to score at least 93 points, and 583 for the paper-based test. This test has to be taken no more than two years before you apply.
  • Another way to prove your English proficiency is by getting at least a Grade C in English Language in your GSCEs.
  • Or you can take the Cambridge English language test at level C1, on this you will have to score at least 180 points.

ENTRANCE EXAM

  • Similarly, in mainland China, you will not have to take the Gaokao.
  • But you will most likely be required to take an entrance exam that will be given to you by the university you chose to apply to.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • For international students who have acquired their qualifications outside of Hong Kong the application is done directly through the university you choose.
  • You will need to provide evidence of
  • your English proficiency, as mentioned earlier.
  • Evidence of your studies and grades.
  • A reference letter
  • Personal statement
  • The application fee is about £40.
  • You will also need to attend an interview as a part of the application process. These interviews usually take place multiple times from June to July.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

You have until late August to submit your application.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

The application opens in early October.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The tuition fee is usually around £4,000 a year.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

There are 300 Hong Kong Government Scholarships available. This is a fully funded scholarship.

  • You will receive £29,739 a year, towards food and housing.
  • To be a successful candidate you need to be seen as having the necessary qualities of a successful leader, researcher, and communicator.
  • You will also need to have excellent above-average grades.
