This article aims to inform you about everything you need to know about studying medicine in Malta as an international student. We mainly focus on tuition fees, deadlines, application procedures, entry requirements and so on.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • The A-level subjects you are expected to take are physics, biology, maths, and chemistry.
  • You will need to get at least an A in chemistry and biology. And a B in one of the other subjects.
  • The A-Level scores are equivalent to 37 IB points. This must include Biology and Chemistry which you have taken at least a standard level.
  • If you are a non-native English speaker you will need to prove your English skills.
  • You are required to take the EAP language test in which you will need to score at least a B in the writing section and an A overall.

ENTRANCE EXAM

  • You will need to take the UCAT and score a minimum of 2281.
  • The test takes about two hours to complete and tests the participant’s knowledge of abstract, quantitative, and verbal reasoning, as well as situational judgment and decision making.

  • On this website, they also provide practice tests you can take in preparation for when you take the real test.
  • The test takes place multiple times between July and September.
  • The test will cost around £120 for those taking it outside of the UK.
  • If you take this test in the UK it costs about £75.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

In most cases, when it comes to applying to a university in Malta you can apply directly through the university’s website.

Usually, in your application, they will ask you to provide the following information

  • Your UCAT score (if you have it)
  • Your English test score
  • A DBS check
  • A personal statement
  • A reference
  • Health assessment certificate
  • Proof that you meet the grade requirements

Sending in your application might lead to you being invited in for an interview. This interview will be done through Zoom, and last about 20 minutes. You can find more information about what will be discussed in this interview on the university’s website. If this interview goes well then you will be offered a conditional offer.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The application deadline for medical school in Malta is around the beginning of March. This might differ depending on the university you are applying to so be sure to double-check the university’s website.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Universities in Malta are free for residents of the European Union.

Non-EU nationals will have to pay about £7,133 a year.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Unfortunately, there aren’t many scholarships available for international undergraduate students looking to study medicine in Malta.
