Indian students aspiring to study for Master's degrees at the United Kingdom's Imperial College received a pleasant surprise as the college announced the new scholarship programme. The Future Leaders Scholarship programme will support 30 Indian students with scholarships worth £ 400,000. The initiative goes the extra mile for female scholars by reserving half of the scholarships for them.

The college declared the news during the visit of Jitendra Singh, Indian Union Minister of Science and Technology. The Minster was there to meet students and researchers at Imperial College and strengthen bilateral ties.

A prestigious public research university, Imperial College London has several accolades to its name, such as ranking first in the country for research outputs and environment. It is also in the top spot among Russell Group universities for research impact.

The college houses the MS and Parkinson’s Tissue Bank, which preserves the donated central nervous system tissue samples from people with Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and related conditions. The collection is a part of the UK’s largest brain bank, with around 1,650 specimens and organ samples being used in research projects in 100 institutions around the world.

Another area where the college excels is research publications. Academics here have co-authored more than 1,200 research publications with associates across 300 Indian institutions in the last five years. Research partners include the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Christian Medical College, and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

Imperial College London currently has 700 Indian students on its rolls. It also boasts a thriving community of 3,000 alumni in India.
