This article focuses on Denmark and what it is like for international students who are looking to study for a medical degree here. We aim to inform you on all things relating to applying to a university in Denmark, entry requirements, fees and so on.
There are hundreds of programs in Denmark taught in English that you can choose from. The best universities in Denmark that offer English taught medical degrees include Aarhus University, the University of Copenhagen, and the University of Southern Denmark, just to name a few.
A medical course in Denmark last about six years, with the first three years being pre-clinical, where you will learn theory, and the following three years will be practice, done in the clinical field.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To study for a medical degree in Denmark, you need to be at least 17 years old.
Some of the subjects that applicants should have taken at their A-Levels include Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
To be accepted you will need to achieve at least 50% overall in all your science subjects combined.
You will also need to prove your English language proficiency by successfully completing one of these tests: PTE Academic, IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT.
ENTRANCE EXAM
The only exam that you need to pass to be a successful applicant for a university in Denmark is the language proficiency test.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
To apply for an English taught program in Denmark you can use the ‘www.optagelse.dk’ website. Here you can apply for a maximum of 8 programs.
You have to list the courses in order of the one you want the most to the one you want the least, out of the eight. The one you want the most should be at top of the list.
In other cases, you might also be able to apply through the university’s website. This way you can only apply for one course at a time.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
Most applicants should apply by mid-March. Those with a Danish upper secondary education have until the start of July.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
You will receive a response around late July
This could either say that you have been rejected.
Meaning you have not been accepted to any of the courses on your list.
Or it could say that you have been accepted, to study at least one of the courses on your list.
Keep in mind this might not mean you have been accepted for your top choice.
You will have to respond to this letter by the start of August
FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The tuition fees for international students can range between £5,075 to £15,538 per academic year.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Denmark Government Scholarship for non-EU Students is available for students outside of the EU with exceptional grades.
Additionally, specific universities might provide financial aid and scholarships for those who might need them.
