This article will focus on universities in Sweden, and what it’s like for international students who are looking to apply to said universities. We will inform you of things like tuition fees, entry requirements, deadlines, and more.
OVERVIEW
It takes about five and a half years to complete a degree in medicine in Sweden. You can find a bachelor degree in medicine that is taught entirely in English at the Karolinska Institute.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You need to be at least 18 years old.
For your taken subjects you will be required to have achieved good grades in maths, biology, chemistry and in some cases even physics.
These grades need to be equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school programs.
You need to have scored at least 60?ross your grades.
You will also need to prove your English proficiency. To do this you can take the tests IELTS or TOEFL, the required score will depend on the university you are applying to.
ENTRANCE EXAM
You will need to take the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test.
This test costs £37 and can be taken in spring or autumn.
This exam test is divided into two parts. In the first part, you will be tested on your numerical knowledge, like mathematics, graphs, diagrams and so on.
And in the second part, you will be tested on your verbal skills, in both Swedish and English.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
If you come from outside of the European Union, you will have to pay an application fee. This going to be around £71.
You can apply and submit all the required documentation online.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
If you are an international student, you will have until about the middle of January to submit your application.
The deadline for EU nationals is around the middle of April.
APPLICATION TIMELINE
For international students the application opens in the middle of October, and you will have until January to submit it.
For European students the application opens in the middle of March, it is only open for about a month, as the deadline is, as mentioned earlier, in the middle of April.
FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The fees for studying medicine in Sweden as an international student, range, and differ depending on the university and level at which you are studying, but in general you will be requested to pay between £9,401 to £11,365 per year.
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Lund University Global Scholarship Program will cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of your tuition fees. You have to be from a country that is not in Europe. And have applied for a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
