This article will focus on Italy, and what to expect when applying to study medicine in Italy as an international student.

OVERVIEW

• In Italy, it takes about six years of full-time study, to complete a medical course.
• After you finish the six years, you will need to do a six-month-long placement.
• Then you will need to take an exam, which if you pass will give you the title of a registered physician.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• To be accepted for an English taught medical course in Italy, you will need to have three science-related A-Levels. Or anything equivalent.
• And if you are not a native English speaker you will also be requested to prove your English proficiency by providing the university with a certificate.
• Additionally, you will need to pass the entrance exam.

ENTRANCE EXAM

• You will need to take the International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT).
• When taking the IMAT, you will be tested on your ability to analyse data, problem-solving, general knowledge and so on.
• Like with a lot of other entrance exams the internet has a lot of resources to help you prepare for the test.
• This test costs around £100.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

• Applicants from non-EU countries will need to submit an application request to the Italian embassy in their country.
• You will need to complete an application form.
• And along with this form, you will need to submit a number of different documents.

These include things like

• a copy of your school certificate, your grades and so on.
• You will also need to provide two photographs of yourself, they should be roughly the size of a passport, and one of them needs to be signed by you.
• Depending on your course there might be additional documents required.
• All the documents will need to be translated into Italian.
• Once you have completed this, and have met the required criteria, the embassy will send your information to the university you want to study at.
• If you are an EU national, you apply the exact same way Italian students do. So, you apply directly to the university of your choice. And this process and required documentation will differ depending on what university you are applying for.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

• The application deadline depends on the university.
• But usually, students will have until late June to submit their applications.

FEES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

• The price of the tuition fees differs depending on where you are from, and what university you want to study at.
• The prices will generally be lower for students coming from inside the EU.
• The prices can range anywhere between £815 and £3,625 per year. The average is about £1,005 per year.
